Backyardtints Paterson is the original and busiest branch of the Backyard Tints brand, a River Street shop with one of the larger tint followings in Passaic County. It runs the whole menu, car window tinting from standard dyed film through ceramic, plus chrome delete, vinyl wrap work and even boat glass, at a walk-up pace, with a shop dog that greets the regulars at the door. Chrome delete is the job worth explaining, because it looks like a sticker and behaves like bodywork. The bright trim on a modern car is not one continuous piece: it runs around the window apertures in sections, disappears into rubber seals, and turns tight corners at the mirror mounts and the base of the A-pillar. Film has to be tucked behind those seals rather than trimmed against them, or the first pressure wash finds the edge. Done properly it reads like factory black trim from three feet away and comes off years later leaving the chrome underneath untouched, which is the argument for film over paint on a car anyone intends to sell. The tint side runs on the same walk-in rhythm, and the ceramic question is the one customers ask most. A dyed film darkens a window and cuts glare but does little against heat; ceramic is engineered to turn back the infrared part of sunlight, which is the warmth felt through closed glass, so a lighter shade that stays under the limit an inspection checks can hold the cabin down where a darker dyed film cannot, and it keeps its color rather than drifting purple after a couple of summers. The River Street shop is open six days, closing only on Sunday, and draws trade from Paterson, Clifton and the wider North Jersey area.
